Casares Footpath1 - Refugio Sierra Crestellina

Casares Footpath route 1 - Refugio Sierra Crestellina

Just a 10 minute drive from Casares del Sol into the hilla to Casares Spain town center. This footpath called Refugio Sierra Crestellina is an 8km walk from the center of Casares classed as easy to moderate difficulty and to take approximately 3 hours.

The foot path leaves the center of Casares town, climbing from the road via a well surfaced track until arriving at the Puerto de las ViƱas. It then turns to the west, in the direction of the Refuge, which is situated on the front facing side of the valley. From there, the descent is via another path, leading down to the road and eventually once again to Casares.

The footpath offers magnificent views of the Sierra Crestellina and the Monte del Duque. At the begining of the route we pass by the 18th century Fountain of La Arquita. The footpath route is surrounded by Mediterranean forest vegetation such as gall and holm oaks, pines, carob trees, lentiks, etc.

We also get the chance to observe the flight of the griffon vulture, a significant number of which live in the sierra.

Stay at Casares del Sol holiday apartment and walk through the lovely hills and mountains of the Sierra Bermeja.
